It’s just a business card!

Someone's business card. Pop it in the desk. It may come in useful at some point. If I remember about it...

Take out one of your business cards right now and look at it. Have you ever wondered what other people think of it? What impression of your business are you giving people when you hand them your card? Is it the right impression? Is it the very best impression? Or are you leaving no impression at all...

A business card is the simplest effective marketing and sales tool going – it is literally your very own walking advert:
  • The best cards tell people who you are, what you do and how to get hold of you or find out more.
  • The very best cards make people want to know more and want to contact you.

So what does your business card say about you and your business?

Make sure you are getting the best and biggest impact from your business card... But remember, your business card may be an amazing, all singing, all dancing, neon flashing level of brilliance, but it is worthless if you don’t carry it about and hand it out!

Make sure it is readable.
  • Font size: Too small. Too big. Just right.
  • Font colour: Too light. Too bright. Just right.
  • Font type: Can’t read. Can’t take seriously. Got it.

Make sure it feels right.
  • Weight: What feeling do you want to give? Feels cheap. Feels solid. Feels classy.
  • Finish: Is your business: Glossy? Smooth? Environmentally friendly?

Make sure the information is necessary.
  • Less is more. If you’re reading this and still having to keep reading and wondering what the message is and why you’re still reading and actually getting bored and a bit annoyed then there is way too much written on this business card and you are probably going to throw it in the bin because you’ve lost interest.
  • Name. Job title/service. Contact details. Web/social media.
  • Sell yourself! My business is the best for you.

Make sure the branding is right.
  • Use your logo.
  • Don’t let your business card be a stranger to the rest of your business’s look. Make it part the family.

Make sure you use the right imagery.
  • Don’t look bad.

o   This image is nothing to do with my business.
o   This image is blurred.

  • Reflect what you do. Reflect it well.

o   This image makes me look good.
o   This image gets attention.

Make sure you use the back.
  • Blank space says nothing.
  • Say more. Show more.

Make sure you create impact.
"Hey, I have to show you this card I got at the event today. It's brilliant. I reckon they'd be a cool business to do that work for us..."
